On February 18th, 2008, Republic Act No. 9492 (RA 9492) was mandated to rationalize the celebration of National Holidays and to declare certain days (specific or movable) as special or regular holidays for the Year 2008. RA 9492 provides that holidays, except those which are religious in nature, are moved to the nearest Monday unless otherwise modified by law, order or proclamation. However, Labor Day (May 1st) has been a long cherished tradition of workers and an international event was celebrated on its exact date. RA 9492 further mandated that to enable Filipino workers to have a more meaningful observance of Christmas and New Year, two additional non-working holidays are added this December.
The DECLARED NON-WORKING HOLIDAYS FOR DECEMBER 2008 are as follows:
Regular Holidays:
December 1Â – Bonifacio Day (Nearest November 30)
December 25 – Christmas Day
December 30 – Rizal Day
Special Non-Working Holidays:
December 26 – Additional non-working holiday
December 29 – Additional non-working holiday
December 31 – Last day of the year
So, for us in the Philipine workforce, Our last working day of the year will be on December 24th and will be back to the office on the 2nd of January 2009. And probably more time to trim down on those fat belly.

hi i just need to know if a special non-working holiday falls on a “no-work, no-pay” basis. and is November one of these days? And can I have a copy of the new withholding tax table as well as the transitional table Thank you so much.
for “no-work, no-pay” employees, special non-working holidays not worked will not be paid.
this is noted. thanks for the info.
We’re one of the countries with the most holidays in a year. Something that most people would be thankful, but something that businessmen would rather minimize. But I guess Singapore has more holidays than Philippines, and it is also noted that UK has one of the most-deprived holiday workforce in the Europe and the world.
